GTBP

GTBP
(= G/T binding protein)
Protein (160 kD) important in mismatch recognition in human cells. The heterodimer of GTBP with hMSH2 (one of the MSH family) binds mismatches (G paired with T) as a first step in excision repair. Absence of either protein predisposes to tumours. GTBP gene is located near that for hMSH2 and GTBP can be considered one of the MSH family.
